Welcome Grad Dip Ed (Applied Learning) 2007

Welcome to all of our new 2007 students in the Graduate Diploma of Education (Applied Learning) and congratulations on being accepted into the course.

My name is Damian Blake and I am one of the Grad Dip Ed (AL) team who will be working with you in 2007.

Although we will be using the Deakin Studies Online (DSO) throughout 2007, I have also set-up this blog site to allow our students to introduce themselves and begin communicating with each other before next year.

Yes I know it is getting very late in the year, with Christmas just three weeks away now, however I thought it might be a good idea to provide an opportunity to get together for afternoon tea. A meet and greet if you like!

I have booked the Lakehouse Restaurant at Deakin Uni in Waurn Ponds for 3:00pm on Wednesday 13 December, 2006 for anyone who is interested and available to meet other students in the course and members of the course team.

We will have a light afternoon tea provided, and if you like, you can also purchase a drink from the bar.

The Deakin Lakehouse at our Waurn Ponds Campus can be located using the maplink: Deakin Map

If you are interested in coming, could you please respond by creating a comment (click on the comments link below) on this blog site...oh, and you can introduce yourself to other students at the same time. Alternatively, you could also send me an email direct: dmblake@deakin.edu.au

Even if you will be busy (Christmas shopping or at work) and can't make it, you can still introduce yourself by commenting to this blog. You may be surprised to find others living near you also doing the course - great for car pooling!

But please don't worry if you can't get there, it's only planned as a social opportunity to say hello and meet others in the course. There will be other opportunities next year and all official materials will be sent to you in the mail or handed out during the Summer School intensive in February.

Regards,

Damian

Hi there,

I am due to start the course in 2007 and live in Wangaratta, NE Victoria with my husband a 4 children. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the coffee afternoon as it is a bit too far to travel, but I am looking forward to meeting everyone in February.

I would love to hear from anyone else who will be studying next year(especially if you live nearby).

Have a good Christmas everyone.

Nicky

Hi,

Looking forward to meeting some of you on Wed. I will try to get away from work as I do like a social gathering, especially at this time of year. I'm a Geelong local, so if anyone needs any recommendations for short term accom, don't hesitate to ask. Looking forward to meeting you all in Feb.

Merry Christmas

Greetings everyone!
My name is Michelle & unfortunately I won't be able to make this jolly gathering. I'm due to start the course in 2007, but am living in Ye Olde Edinburgh at the moment & aren't due to return until feb 12th (nothing like giving myself noooo time to settle in!). I'm really excited to be back in Oz (it's been 4 years) & to study again & to meet you all. I'll be living in Portarlington, not far from Geelong so if any of you are nearby let me know.
I Hope you all have a jolly christmas & a new year full of shenanigans a-plenty!!
See you all soon!
Best Wishes,
Michelle

Hi everyone,

It was great to catch up with several students yesterday and to hear your individual stories. We will have more opportunities in 2007 and you will also get to meet some of the students from 2006 and 2005.

We are currently finishing the timetable for the first summer intensive and will post it to everyone in mid January.

Please remember the following dates for the Intensive Study Blocks:

Summer School: 12 February - 23 February.

Autumn Intensive: 23 April to 4 May.

Winter Intensive: 2 July to 13 July.

Spring Intensive: 17 September to 28 September.

Final Study Block: 29 October - 9 November.

Lauri and I will be taking some leave in the first weeks of Janurary and will be back in the office around the 20th Janurary.

So until we see you on 12 February, please have a Happy Christmas and a great New Year.

Damian
